7 facts about water that you didn't know
Water is the basis for all life on earth. But water is becoming scarce, and not everyone can simply turn on the tap for clean water - 771 million people worldwide have no access to clean drinking water . With your support, we want to change that. With every soulbottle you buy, 1 € goes to WASH'n'soul, our drinking water and climate protection project with Viva con Agua and BORDA. For the water nerds among you, we have dug deeper and found facts that you probably hadn't heard of before.
1. Only 0.007% of the water on earth is drinkable

2. Where does our water come from?
We sip from groundwater: 61%, or more than half of our drinking water in Germany, is obtained from groundwater. A further 12% is taken from dams and lakes, 9% comes from spring water, enriched groundwater and bank filtration. Only 1% of our drinking water comes from rivers.
3. Tap water is one of the safest foods
Through various treatment processes, the water in the waterworks is made into drinking water and is tested several times before it ends up in your pipes.
4. Virtual water consumption pollutes the environment
On average, a person in Germany consumes 123 liters of water per day: for drinking, cooking, washing, and personal hygiene. This does not include the so-called virtual water consumption - the water needed to produce food, clothing, and other consumer goods. About 140 liters of water are needed for a cup of coffee, and more than 1,000 liters are needed to produce 1 kg of avocado. Would you have thought that?
5. Drinking tap water is good for the climate
On average, 202.74 g of CO₂ are produced per liter of bottled water, compared to just 0.35 g for tap water. The high climate impact of mineral water is due to the high costs of transport and packaging. If everyone in Germany switched from mineral to tap water, three million tons of CO₂ could be saved. That's 1.5 times as much CO₂ as if all domestic air traffic in Germany were to be stopped. Would you have thought that?
6. Water is a true prodigy of alchemy
The sun evaporates water into water vapor and then it comes back to earth in liquid form as rain. At low temperatures, water freezes into ice and becomes solid. At geysers, you can watch water change to a gaseous state. And here's the thing: Under certain circumstances, water can freeze, evaporate and remain in liquid form at the same time. This point is called the triple point. Pretty cool.

7. Drinking water makes you smart
The human body is made up of 80% water, and blood is 90% water. Around 2.5 liters of water are excreted through the kidneys, skin and lungs every day. To compensate for this loss of fluid, it is important that you drink water regularly. If you haven't drunk anything for a long time, the blood thickens and flows more slowly. As a result, the brain suffers from a lack of oxygen and you can no longer concentrate. With the time and quantity information on the soulbottles stay hydrated drinking bottle , we want to make drinking water as easy as possible for you.
