The innovative filter technology of the soulfilter is based on a clever interplay of electrostatic adsorption and mechanical filtration . This combination makes the filter particularly effective in removing a wide variety of contaminants from the water - from microorganisms to microplastics and chemical residues.
At the heart of the filter is a crystalline structure that generates a strong positive electrical charge . This charge acts like a magnet to attract negatively charged particles, including:
- viruses
- bacteria
- protozoa and parasites
- Microplastics and fine suspended matter
While mechanical filters only mechanically hold back particles through their pore size, electrostatic adsorption goes a step further: it also captures extremely small contaminants that could otherwise slip through. The filter thus achieves a removal rate of up to 99.99% for harmful microorganisms.
In addition to electrostatic adsorption, the filter uses a nonwoven membrane system coated with activated carbon and nanoalumina .
- Activated Carbon : Known for its ability to remove organic chemicals, chlorine, pesticides and drug residues from water. It significantly improves the taste and odor of the water.
- Nanoalumina : These ultra-fine aluminum particles increase the adsorption power of the filter. They help to bind even the smallest contaminants such as endotoxins .
The filter has a pore size of 1.5 micrometers . This means:
- Larger particles such as dirt, dust and sediments are mechanically retained.
- Microplastics and other visible contaminants stay outside.
A soulfilter cartridge has a lifespan of up to 300 liters of filtered water or about 3 months of daily use (the more polluted the source water, the lower the performance capacity). After this time, the filter performance decreases as the pores and electrostatic material become saturated with impurities. For optimal water quality and safe use, it is recommended to replace the filter every 3 months of continuous use or when the maximum capacity is reached.
