We have so far clearly positioned ourselves against Black Friday. What happened?
First of all, what is wrong with Black Friday?
As the biggest day of consumption, it fuels everything that is wrong with our consumer behavior today. Black Friday is an artificially constructed day to sell lots of things cheaply (!) that people often don't actually need - the companies' accounts are happy - but without any consideration. It fuels fast-moving, environmentally harmful products, inhumane working conditions and wages.
And that will be different in 2023?
No. But since the outbreak of the pandemic, energy crisis, war and inflation, our consumer behavior has changed dramatically. More sustainable companies in particular are struggling. The products are more expensive and everyone has to save more or less.
And now?
Like so many things, this can be viewed in a very differentiated way. We use this day as an opportunity to offer selected products 20-70% cheaper. That doesn't mean that the products are otherwise overpriced. But we also have to react to consumer behavior in order to end 2023 OK.
In this way, we can also offer people who don’t have much of a budget the opportunity to buy soul products and consume sustainably on Black Friday.
Tips for a sustainable Black Friday:
- Make a list of what you really need (gifts for siblings, spare parts/extensions for product X, new headphones because the old ones only work on the right side...).
- Check the prices of the products beforehand – is it really a bargain?
- Choose the more environmentally friendly alternative .
- Many (sustainable) companies are following our path this year and offering really cool promotions .
Because honestly: sustainable brands have been suffering for years and need support ! We watch every sustainable brand that has to give up with great concern.
